From my lovely little neighborhood in Saint Paul, Minnesota come charming, fun to make knits.
I grew up crafting. I have happy memories of being a young child, sitting under the kitchen table, waiting for big fabric scraps to come floating down from my mother who was cutting out a sewing pattern.
My mom taught me to sew and embroider and make all kinds of things. There was one summer where we made these crazy long beads from rolled triangles of magazine pages and clear nail polish. She did teach me to knit, but it never stuck with me, maybe because she is such an excellent knitter, and her quick Continental style seemed impossible for me to do.
In college in the Applied Design program, Graphic Design became my passion and profession. I’ve worn many design hats in different places, including a long stint teaching at the wonderful College of Visual Arts.
When it seemed my best pals were knitting, and when my own daughter came home and told me she was knitting in her after-school program, I decided to try to knit again. And this time it stuck!
I like to knit all kinds of things, and I design things that I want to wear. As the Design Coordinator at Blue Sky Alpacas yarn company (now Blue Sky Fibers), my first knitting patterns were published and my tech editing work began. My patterns reflect my background in graphic design: clear and attractive, easy to read, easy to print, and always include both charts and written instructions.
Now you’ll find me knitting everywhere, but my favorite place will always be in front of a good movie with my wonderful husband, amazing daughter, and two big furry cats.
